Introduction

This page aims to share my compositions for the guitar to the wider audience. You may find here pieces in various styles, such as Latin American, fingerpicking, folk, as well as these whch are borrowing form and/or harmony from the classical music. Majority of my composition can be heard from my YT channel.

My videos have just exceeded 116,000 views so this is the right time for the next step in my musical journey. I am open for all suggestions and I will make my best to give responses for all questions related to the technical and interpretation issues that may arise.

How to publish your own pieces?

In the beginning of my journey with composing I used to ask myself If there would be a chance to publish my work one day. Being realistic, I knew that without an education certificate or winning some important competition it would not be possible. So I started participating in the competitions for guitar composers; I tried Concurso de Composición Andrés Segovia, two editions of Concorso internazionale di composizione per chitarra classica 'Michele Pittaluga' and also less recognized Composition Competition for Polish Classical Guitar Composers in Żory. I ended up with two distinctions from the last one.

Unfortunately, organizers of that competition did not support winners by publishing their works. I therefore decided to take some actions on my own. I sent my manuscripts to several publishing houses, however none of them decided to invest in publication. In the meantime, I received a message from Mr. Allan Bergmann Jensen, who had found the recording I had shared on Facebook:

After a couple of months, it was my turn and we started working on getting ready to publish it. We ordered voices and cleared some issues, then prepared several versions of the manuscript; e.g. with fingerings, tablatures and magna. After sending a few e-mails and setting the cover art we reached the point we were both satisfied with it. You may see the product here. Nice accent is that Mr. Allan deposits all published pieces in Danish libraries, which can be seen in Worldcat. Mr. Allan is always willing to collaborate with new composers that can offer valuable work for publishing, so if You are the one, do not hesitate to contact him on Facebook.

A few words about composing

It seems that every musician gets into a crisis of constant re-playing other’s works. Although we can interpret the music correctly, it is hard to fully identify our self with what we are playing during the performance.

The process of creation is a nice attempt of detaching from the grey reality. At first there is a need to transform our feelings into sounds and then collecting them and ordering into a single piece of music that makes sense. We need to learn how to deal with our emotions and additionally we cannot predict what will be the final effect. Thus, in many cases the composer surprises her-/himself which makes entering the state of euphoria very probable.

I like this feeling, however usually in the beginning of the process I cannot be sure that I will manage to complete the work. Usually it takes a few attempts and the risk of losing inspiration increases over the period of time. It might be that the composer is the first and the last reviewer of her/his idea - if it’s not good enough, most probably it will not be completed.

It is also possible to treat composing purely intellectually, however from my own experience I know that any piece written without emotional context is more difficult to memorize, perform and listen to. Thus, composing without passion and euphoria makes our work possibly landing in a drawer for ages.
